A provider has been selected to operate the new Carina–Carindale Medicare Urgent Care Clinic following a competitive tender process led by the Brisbane South Primary Health Network.
The Albanese Government announced The Old Cleveland Road Clinic, located at 805 Old Cleveland Road, as the successful provider for the new clinic, which will provide free urgent care for non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses.
The Carina–Carindale Medicare Urgent Care Clinic will open on Monday 22 December 2025 and will initially operate from 9am to 7pm. Extended hours are planned from 12 January 2026, when the clinic will be open from 8am to 10pm. The clinic will operate seven days a week.
The service will be walk-in only, with no appointment or GP referral required, allowing people to access timely care close to home while easing pressure on local hospital emergency departments.
The clinic is expected to play a key role in reducing demand on emergency departments at the Princess Alexandra and Redland hospitals. In 2024–25, around 21 per cent of presentations at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and 26 per cent at Redland Hospital were for semi-urgent or non-urgent conditions.
The Carina–Carindale Medicare Urgent Care Clinic will join Queensland’s existing network of 16 Medicare Urgent Care Clinics and become part of more than 95 operating nationally.
Since the first sites opened in June 2023, Medicare Urgent Care Clinics across Australia have recorded more than 2.2 million presentations, including more than 450,800 presentations in Queensland.
Minister for Health and Aged Care Mark Butler said the Government was continuing to expand access to urgent care services.
“The Albanese Government is getting on with the job of delivering more Medicare Urgent Care Clinics for people in Queensland,” Minister Butler said.
“The new Carina-Carindale clinic will be open seven days a week, extended hours and most importantly they’ll be fully bulk billed.”
“This clinic will take pressure off the local hospitals, including the Princess Alexandra Hospital, and will fill an important gap in services across extended hours and over the weekend.”
Federal Member for Bonner Kara Cook said the clinic was a direct response to community advocacy.
“Our community called for a brand-new Urgent Care Clinic. Hundreds of locals signed my petition calling for one and I am so excited to see Labor delivering for our community,” Ms Cook said.
“Local families should not have to worry about the cost when seeking medical care or avoid medical treatment because they can’t afford it.”
“The Carina-Carindale clinic will be an incredible addition for our community – it will offer bulk billed, extended hours care for locals who need urgent help, but don’t need to spend hours waiting in a hospital emergency room”.
