REDLANDS Coast residents are being invited to immerse themselves in nature, sustainability and community spirit when the IndigiScapes Environment and Community Fair returns later this month.
The free family-friendly event will be held at the Redlands IndigiScapes Centre in Capalaba on Saturday, May 23, featuring a packed program of environmental talks, live entertainment, workshops and hands-on activities.
Acting Mayor Julie Talty said the event would celebrate the region’s naturally wonderful lifestyle while encouraging the community to learn more about protecting the environment.
“This is a great opportunity for the community to spend some time outdoors with friends and family and celebrate the naturally wonderful lifestyle we are so lucky to enjoy here on Redlands Coast,” Cr Talty said.
“The Environment and Community Fair offers something for all ages and invites visitors to explore, learn and connect with the environment at their own pace and in a relaxed, family-friendly setting.”
A major drawcard for the event will be a special appearance by Gardening Australia presenter Jerry Coleby-Williams, who will speak about sustainable horticulture and greener living before joining Ranger Stacey for a live Q&A session on the main stage.
The popular Eco Markets will also return in the Botanic Gardens, featuring sustainable product stalls, food vans and a live broadcast from Bay FM’s G’day it’s Saturday team.
Families can also enjoy a range of interactive activities including damper-making workshops, weed weaving, bush bingo, messy play sessions, native bee workshops, water bug discovery activities and story time with Redland City Libraries.
Cr Talty said the event would help kickstart the countdown to World Environment Day on June 5.
“From bush to bay, we have so much to be grateful for on Redlands Coast, and the event will explore how we can all play a role in protecting the natural environment for future generations to enjoy,” she said.
Division 7 Councillor Rowanne McKenzie encouraged visitors to take the opportunity to explore the wider IndigiScapes precinct while attending the fair.
“There is so much to see and do at IndigiScapes and if you’ve never been to the centre before, I encourage you to make time for exploration during the Environment and Community Fair,” Cr McKenzie said.
She said visitors could also enjoy the centre’s botanic gardens, accessible bushwalking tracks, Discovery Centre, gift shop, IndigiCafe and the Native Nursery, which will be open throughout the event.
Redlands IndigiScapes Centre is located at 17 Runnymede Road, Capalaba, with parking available via the nursery entry at 15 Runnymede Road.
The Environment and Community Fair begins at 9am and entry is free.
