MOUNT Cotton is coming home.
After years outside the electorate, the fast-growing suburb will return to the Redlands seat under a major shake-up of Queensland’s electoral boundaries.
The Queensland Redistribution Commission has handed down its final determination, confirming Mount Cotton will be reunited with Redlands from the 2028 State Election.
The changes will also see the Redlands electorate expand to include residents in the Carbrook area to the Skinners Park Rd boundary.
State Member for Redlands Rebecca Young said the decision reunited communities with long-standing historical and geographic ties.
“I am incredibly excited to welcome Mount Cotton back to the Redlands electorate,” she said.
“Mount Cotton has always shared strong connections with the Redlands, and I look forward to working closely with residents, community groups and businesses.
“I’m also pleased to welcome residents in the Carbrook area into the future Redlands electorate.
“While these boundary changes won’t take effect until the 2028 State Election, I want residents to know I’m committed to listening to their priorities and working hard to earn their confidence.”
The redistribution also comes with a trade-off, with Thornlands set to move into another electorate from the 2028 election.
Mrs Young said she remained committed to representing Thornlands until the new boundaries officially take effect.
“While it’s disappointing to lose Thornlands under the new boundaries, my commitment to the community remains unchanged,” she said.
“I will continue to represent and advocate strongly for Thornlands residents for the remainder of this term because these new boundaries do not come into effect until the 2028 State Election.
“Thornlands is an important part of our community, and I’ll continue fighting for the infrastructure, services and investment local families deserve.”
Mrs Young said work was already underway on a key commitment that would benefit Mount Cotton residents, pointing to the State Government’s $8 million upgrade of the Mount Cotton Rd and Valley Way intersection.
“I’m proud to be part of a Crisafulli Government that is getting on with delivering it,” she said.
