REDLANDS Coast will once again be transformed into a hub of action, exploration and outdoor experiences when the second annual AdventureFest rolls into the city this May.
The 10-day festival, running from May 15-24, is set to deliver a packed program of events across the region, building on the success of last year’s inaugural celebration.
Redland City Deputy Mayor Julie Talty said the festival would showcase the region as a premier adventure destination.
“Council has reported that last year’s inaugural event helped to showcase Redlands Coast as an adventure destination, with 75 events and experiences attracting almost 19,000 attendees,” Cr Talty said.
“AdventureFest aims to offer an adventure for everyone, whether as a participant or a spectator.
“This includes events that get your heart racing, such as the Straddie Salute Triathlon Festival, the MG Car Club Speed Hillclimb and Come and Try Dragon Boating.
“There will be arts and culture adventures, including the return of the Water Lantern Festival, and a range of workshops.
“There will be adventures aimed at couples and families, and events that allow people to immerse themselves in nature or indulge their inner foodie.
“The AdventureFest website will be updated regularly as events are confirmed and I encourage everyone who wants to participate to get in early as some events have registration close-off dates.”
A key highlight will be the free AdventureFest Fun Day at Raby Bay Harbour Park on Saturday, May 16.
“The fun day will include adventure sports demonstrations, entertainment, rides and information stalls,” Cr Talty said.
“Council will also curate a program of adventures to be held at Redland Art Gallery, Redland Libraries, Redlands IndigiScapes Centre and Redland Performing Arts Centre.”
Economic Development portfolio representative Cr Peter Mitchell said the festival delivered a strong boost to the local economy.
“Last year’s event attracted more than $3 million in economic benefit to the city through increased visitor spending at local tourism, accommodation, transport and food businesses,” Cr Mitchell said.
“There was overwhelmingly positive feedback with sold out events, including about 5000 people attending Council’s AdventureFest Fun Day. There was also a record 4500 attendees at last year’s Straddie Salute, and accommodation on Minjerribah was almost at full capacity.
“It was great to see tourism operators collaborating on new events and experiences and I look forward to seeing what this year’s Adventure Fest will deliver for Redlands Coast.”
Among the events already confirmed for this year’s festival are the Straddie Salute Triathlon Festival (May 15-17), Redlands MTB Rumble weekend (May 15-17), the Adventure Angler Competition (May 15-24), MG Car Club Speed Hillclimb (May 16-17), Water Lantern Festival (May 23-24) and Bayview Blast (May 24).
