Mick de Brenni Slams LNP’s First Year in Office

Member for Springwood Mick de Brenni has delivered a scathing assessment of the LNP Government’s first year in office, accusing it of failing to deliver on key election promises.

“During the election campaign last year, the LNP promised to fix four areas,” he said.

“They promised to ease the cost-of-living crisis, yet they’ve revoked cost of living relief.

“They said they’d solve the housing crisis, yet they’ve cut social housing projects across the state.

“They said they’d solve the health crisis, yet if you’re a patient in an ambulance, you’ll wait longer at a hospital than ever before.

“They said they’d solve the youth crime crisis, yet crime still runs rampant.

“That assessment says they’ve failed.”

In his neighbourhood, Mr de Brenni said we now have a government that cares more about the colour of the coat of arms, than services that matter to locals.

“We have a Premier that wants to call the Redlands Brisbane, and a fire minister who can’t even get her facts straight when it comes to firefighting appliances at the local Mt Cotton Road Fire Station, delivered under Labor,” he said.

Mr de Brenni said his focus as a local Labor MP had been on fighting for issues that matter to the community.

“We’ve been fighting on issues that locals have told us matter to them,” he said.

“$200 sports vouchers were a big one.

“The LNP weren’t going to fund them, but because our community stood up and fought for them, we won.

“And now every kid gets the chance to play sport without unnecessary cost burdens.:

He said the key issues that Redlands faces over the next 12 months will be the same ones they’ve faced for the last 12 months.

“Cost of living will continue to impact locals, and for a government that said it was one of their top priorities, it’s clear that it simply isn’t,” he said.

“Community safety will continue to be an issue, and how can you trust this Government when they got their own numbers on crime data wrong.

“For the community I represent, it will continue to be roads.

“We’ve campaigned hard to push for the delivery of upgrades to Mt Cotton Road after strong community consultation last year, but this Government continues to dodge and weave and avoid any transparency or accountability.

“I’ve always believed in putting people before politics, and I’ll continue to fight to make sure Mount Cotton and Sheldon get the attention and investment you deserve.”
