A NEW grassroots initiative aimed at strengthening opportunities for girls in community sport is set to launch in the Redlands this August, with Redlands Tigers Cricket Club partnering with Queensland Cricket and Redlands Cricket Inc. to deliver a Free Girls Pop Up Cricket Blast program.
The four-week program, starting on August 19 and hosted at Redland Tigers Cricket Club in Wellington Point, invites girls from across the region to come and try cricket in a fun, inclusive and supportive environment.
Organisers say the initiative is designed to encourage more girls to get involved in organised sport, build confidence, and create meaningful community connections.
With women’s and girls’ sport continuing to grow across Australia, local cricket leaders believe programs like this play a vital role in ensuring young girls have accessible pathways into active, healthy lifestyles.
No previous cricket experience is required and all equipment is provided, making the sessions open to girls of all backgrounds and abilities.
For many parents, the program offers a valuable entry point into sport without the pressure of competition or cost barriers, making it an ideal first step for girls who are curious about cricket but haven’t yet had the chance to give it a go.
Participants will take part in games, skill-building activities and social cricket experiences led by Queensland Cricket staff and proudly supported by players from the Redlands Tigers Women’s Program.
Their involvement provides female role models for aspiring young cricketers and helps inspire the next generation of girls to participate, belong and thrive through sport.
With only 25 places available, organisers hope strong community support will help reach more families and ensure local girls don’t miss out on the opportunity.
