THE Lions Club of Capalaba gathered for its annual Change Over Luncheon, drawing more than 50 members, supporters and long time volunteers.
The event centred on acknowledging the past years’ service, welcoming new leadership and highlighting the club’s growing impact across Capalaba and surrounding suburbs.
Master of Ceremonies Savva Argyrou opened the afternoon by acknowledging outgoing President Sophie Cufflin for her dedication, highlighting her strong focus on mental health awareness and support programs.
The club further thanked her for “her passion, commitment and leadership”, recognising the impact of her advocacy throughout the past year.
Later in the program, members announced the incoming Board of Directors comprising President Dr Ian Patterson, Vice President Ken Scells, Secretary Christine Cufflin and Treasurer Sam Hutchinson.
Members said they “looked forward to another successful year of service under his guidance” with Dr Patterson as he steps into the role.
Dr Patterson used his first address as President to speak openly about the personal experiences that have shaped his commitment to Lions medical foundations and community support.
He shared his journey living with Type 2 diabetes, undergoing treatment for prostate cancer and supporting his granddaughter through childhood leukemia, and outlined plans to strengthen support for people with disabilities.The luncheon also recognised a major milestone with more than $100,000 in donations distributed by the Lions Club of Capalaba for 2025-2026.
Five local primary schools, Bayview, Birkdale, Coolnwynpin, Hilliard and Vienna Woods, each received $2800 for their breakfast programs.
Once the afternoon ended, the club reaffirmed its mission, stating they were “excited to continue serving the Redlands community together in the year ahead,” a reminder of the steady dedication that has long defined the Capalaba Lions.
