BRISBANE community groups are being invited to apply for up to $350 to help host Christmas parties, lunches, excursions and other end-of-year gatherings.
The new Lord Mayor’s Community Celebration Donation will provide eligible groups with between $150 and $350 to support activities bringing residents together during the festive season.
Funding can be used for community lunches, bus trips, social outings and Christmas celebrations, with informal groups such as run clubs also eligible to apply.
Unlike some grant programs, applicants do not need deductible gift recipient status, opening the funding to a broader range of local organisations and volunteer-run groups.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the donation recognised the value of community events.
“Brisbane’s community clubs and groups do an incredible job bringing people together, and we want to back them in practical ways,” he said.
Cr Alex Givney said the funding could help support the events that foster local connections.
“From community lunches to social outings, it’s often these events that foster connections and build relationships,” she said.
“This funding will help local groups bring people together and celebrate the festive season here on the Bayside.”
Cr Lisa Atwood said community groups played an important role throughout the year.
“This donation is a great opportunity to give those groups a helping hand to celebrate their members and volunteers at the end of the year.”
Applications close on November 9 – more information by searching “Lord Mayor’s Community Celebration Donation” on Brisbane City Council’s website.
