Alexandra Hills in Redlands has been named one of Greater Brisbane’s top suburbs for first-home buyers in 2026, according to new research from national property specialist Oliver Hume.

The suburb rounded out the top 10 in a list assessing Greater Brisbane’s most accessible markets for first-home buyers, despite ongoing price growth across much of the region.

Oliver Hume analysed more than 40 suburbs based on affordability, eligibility for government buying assistance, available housing supply and proximity to key infrastructure.

Alexandra Hills featured alongside Redbank Plains, Waterford West, Slacks Creek, Logan Reserve, Caboolture, Morayfield, Kallangur, Springfield Lakes and Forest Lake.

The findings come as first-home buyers continue to face intense competition, but property experts say opportunities remain for those prepared to look beyond traditionally popular inner-city areas.

Oliver Hume MyFirstHome CEO Adam Duster said entering the market sooner rather than later was critical for aspiring buyers.

“For first home buyers, it is all about getting into that first property and holding it for the long term,” he said.

“The sooner you get started, the sooner you can start to build towards your dream home.”

Oliver Hume chief economist Matt Bell said suburbs like Alexandra Hills stood out because they combined relative affordability with established services and lifestyle amenity.

“Even with the explosive price growth of the last few years, Greater Brisbane still provides plenty of affordable suburbs, although having enough available stock remains tough with listings much lower than Melbourne,” he said.

“The suburbs on our list don’t just meet the affordability test; they support the day-to-day needs of buyers who want their first home to work for their lifestyle.

“When you weigh up all the factors, they provide a great option for first home buyers looking to get on the property ladder.

“These suburbs remain standouts for buyers looking to maximise their deposit, get access to government assistance schemes while still living in well-located and serviced communities.”

Alexandra Hills’ inclusion highlights Redlands’ growing appeal to first-home buyers seeking established neighbourhoods within reach of Brisbane, while still offering access to local schools, shopping centres and transport links.

First-home buyers purchasing a new property may be eligible for the $30,000 first homeowner grant, while stamp duty concessions apply to homes valued under $800,000.

The Federal Government’s 5 per cent deposit scheme also continues to support eligible buyers looking to enter the market with a smaller upfront deposit.
