Lytton MP Joan Pease has slammed the first year of the Crisafulli LNP Government, saying it has delivered little for Bayside families and relied on policies carried over from Labor.
“The Crisafulli LNP Government has been all spin and no substance,” she said.
“The Premier has been scared of his own shadow in their first year.
“The LNP’s best measures in their last Budget were the ones they kept from Labor — like $200 kids’ sports vouchers and 50 cent fares.
“But they cut the $1,000 energy cost-of-living relief.
“In fact, my electorate didn’t get mentioned at all apart from funding Wynnum Community Place, which I had to write to the Premier multiple times to ensure it was secured.”
Ms Pease also questioned the accuracy of the government’s crime statistics.
“Even their crime stats are fudged, with their police minister this week forced to apologise in parliament for exaggerating crime statistics he has conceded were wrong. Again, this government is all spin, no substance,” she said.
Ms Pease said local families had lost vital support.
“Local families lost vital cost-of-living support, with the $1,000 energy cost-of-living relief gone,” she said.
“The 50 cent public transport fares and $200 kid’s sports vouchers were Labor policies delivered for Bayside families.
“Aside from the continuation of these policies, there’s been very little delivered for Bayside families.”
She said her focus as a local MP had been holding the government to account.
“My top priority has been to keep standing up for Baysiders and holding this government to account,” she said.
“I stand ready to ensure there’s no local cuts to health and education.
“The LNP gutted the Bayside the last time they were in government.”
Looking ahead, Ms Pease warned of challenges associated with population growth and infrastructure.
“Now, Brisbane City Council want to transform our Bayside community into a high-density population zone,” she said.
“That brings a raft of road and transport infrastructure challenges that we need to start preparing for now, not least the Lindum Precinct Project.
“There will be thousands of more cars coming into the Bayside over the coming years.
“If drastic population growth coming to the Bayside is what they want, then the State Government needs to keep up with infrastructure now.
“This includes health services and infrastructure as well.
“We desperately need expanded health services at Gundu Pa Community Health.
“It’s not good enough that Baysiders have to travel 30 minutes to Redlands Hospital or the PA to get access to a dialysis machine.”
