NEON Boxing Academy at Redland Bay has hosted the first Boxing Queensland sanctioned Masters Development Camp, bringing together athletes aged 30-65 from boxing gyms across the state.
The inaugural event was a milestone for both Neon and the Boxing Queensland community, providing a full day of structured training and sparring for Masters athletes.
“Great work legends. Nothing but great feedback from the camp,” said Boxing Queensland President Mark Evans.
Masters boxing in Australia is open to registered Boxing Australia members and follows strict Olympic-style standards.
The day allowed competitors to sharpen skills and prepare for the upcoming Australian Masters Games at AIS, Canberra (October 18-25).
“This was the first of many,” said Head Coach Neon Leon.
“The energy was incredible, and it shows how much passion there is in the Masters space.
“We’re excited to keep growing this side of the sport.”
Last weekend, athletes from Neon Boxing Academy competed at the Elite State Titles.
Gene and Kipa advanced through the preliminaries and quarterfinals with dominant performances throughout.
In the semi-finals, Gene suffered a cut from an accidental clash of heads and, after the doctor’s stoppage, was unable to continue.
Kipa, after a strong campaign, narrowly lost on points in the semi-final.
While they won’t be advancing to Nationals this year, both are now focused on training for the Commonwealth Games 2026 qualifiers in January, keeping their sights on making the Australian team.
Neon Boxing Academy is also gearing up for its next major fundraiser, Punch with Purpose, on Friday, September 27.
The night will feature bingo, raffles, live auctions and plenty of boxing spirit.
Proceeds will support Neon athletes with travel, equipment and competition opportunities across Australia and overseas.
Tickets are available via Humanitix, with the link accessible through Neon Boxing Academy’s social media pages.
