THE Queensland Greens have unveiled Kristie Lockhart as their candidate for the seat of Bowman in the Federal Election.

A healthcare professional with 22 years of experience, Ms Lockhart has worked in pathology laboratories across the public and private sectors, holding technical, clerical, and managerial roles.

As a mother of three, she has witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by frontline workers, including staff shortages, burnout, and underfunded public hospitals.

“As a health care worker, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges faced by frontline workers due to under-funding of our public hospitals, staff shortages, fatigue, stress and burnout,” she said.

Ms Lockhart has outlined key issues she plans to address during her campaign, with a strong focus on healthcare reform.

“The Greens will make big corporations pay their fair share in tax to fund things like dental and mental health into Medicare, fully fund our public hospitals so we can cut waiting times, and ensure GP visits are free,” she said.

In addition to healthcare, Ms Lockhart is concerned about the rising cost of living and the housing crisis.

“Too many people in our community are struggling due to rising grocery bills, rent and mortgage stress, and too many young people now have little hope of ever owning their own home,” she said.

Ms Lockhart proposed measures to tackle price gouging at supermarkets, and break up the duopoly of Coles and Woolworths.

“We will cap rent increases, deliver low-rate mortgages for those in housing stress, and scrap tax handouts to wealthy property investors,” she said.
