LONG-TIME Redlands resident Shaun Holloway has announced his intention to run as an independent candidate for the seat of Bowman in the upcoming Federal Election.

With over 15 years in the community, Mr Holloway’s decision to enter politics comes from a desire to address what he perceives as the failures of both major political parties, Liberal and Labor.

Mr Holloway believes that both parties have “lost touch with the Australian community”.

“Neither party has truly invested in this country or its people for the past 15 to 20 years,” he said. “It’s been a slow decline, and now we’re close to hitting rock bottom. We need change.”

A proud working-class Australian, Mr Holloway’s career has been diverse.

His campaign is driven by several key concerns, particularly the rising cost of living and housing affordability.

He highlighted the Government’s failure to address these issues.

“The cost of living – whether it’s food, electricity, or petrol – is out of control,” he said. “The Government has the tools to address these issues, but for some reason, they’re sitting on their hands or even voting against measures that would help.”

On housing affordability, Mr Holloway criticised both major parties.

He has a plan for funding his proposed policies without introducing new taxes.

His strategies include increasing royalties on mining companies, halting corporations like Santos and Woodside from taking Australia’s resources for free, ending mining subsidies, and recovering JobKeeper funds from businesses that profited during the pandemic.

“I don’t think we need new taxes,” Mr Holloway said.

“In fact, we need more relief for small businesses and middle- and lower-income Australians.

“These are common-sense policies most Australians want – things like dental care under Medicare, more bulk billing GPs, urgent care clinics, and nurses
