KARA Cook has officially launched her campaign for the Bonner electorate, vowing to tackle cost-of-living pressures, healthcare accessibility, and housing affordability in the upcoming Federal Election.
A former domestic violence lawyer, Brisbane City Councillor, and not-for-profit CEO, the ALP candidate said her career had been built on community service.
Now, she hopes to take that experience to Canberra to deliver real solutions for Bonner residents.
“I care deeply about our community and know we need strong, practical leadership to tackle the challenges facing families in Bonner,” Ms Cook said.
“Bonner deserves a representative who will listen, take action, and fight for real solutions.”
She identified the rising cost of living as the electorate’s biggest challenge, promising to push for measures such as cheaper childcare, reduced student debt, and energy bill relief.
Healthcare remained another top priority, with Ms Cook advocating for a Medicare Urgent Care Clinic.
“There are already 87 nationally and they offer fully bulk-billed, walk-in healthcare over extended hours, where all people need is their Medicare card, not their credit card,” she said.
Ms Cook also supports increased Medicare funding, a commitment to subsidised childcare, and additional resources for women and children escaping violence.
She highlighted a $5 million Labor initiative to build transitional housing for survivors in Bonner as an example of her party’s commitment to meaningful change.
Ms Cook said she had already been actively engaging with the community, attending local events and door-knocking to hear residents’ concerns.
If elected, she pledges to continue this hands-on approach through forums, mobile offices, and direct engagement with businesses and community groups.
“This campaign is about ensuring people in Bonner know they have a choice—someone who will fight for them on the issues that matter,” Ms Cook said.
