IT’S TIME to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day with a fun-filled family event at GJ Walter Park in Cleveland on Sunday, 13 October, from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM. The day’s theme, “Protect Insects, Protect Birds,” highlights the crucial relationship between insects and shorebirds.
Visitors can enjoy watching shorebirds through long-range scopes and hear from entomologist and author Michelle Gleeson (aka The Bug Lady) who will explain why birds and people depend on insects for survival. Her fascinating ‘bug display’ offers a close-up look at these essential creatures.
The annual event also features a range of engaging activities for all ages, including fun art projects, a variety of delicious food and coffee, live music from talented local musicians, and community market stalls. Nature enthusiasts can explore various nature displays and learn about local wildlife, including koalas and other native species from local experts.
Additionally, visitors and locals will have the chance to provide feedback on a better Toondah Harbour Plan and see what improvements are possible.
The event is proudly supported by Ubuntu Foundation, ACF Community Bayside, Birdlife Southern Qld, Redlands2030 Inc, Qld Wader Study Group, Koala Action Group, Australian Marine Conservation Society, and Stradbroke (Terrangeri) Environmental and Cultural Protection Association.
Don’t miss this chance to celebrate and learn about our feathered friends while enjoying a morning of community fun!
