NOW here is some exciting fairy news. Students will have further access to professional dental work as the Dental Van returns to the southeast for regular visits.
The dental van, operated by the Tooth Fairy & Co team, received recommendation from the Queensland Government in late May to start visiting Redlands schools for the first time in more than a decade.
Tooth Fairy & Co owner Stephanie Roper said the dental van provided an alternative for patients outside of visiting the fixed clinics. Their catch phrase is: “Never fear the Tooth Fairy is here.”
“I’ve been working on this project, to bring back the dental van visits to schools since September last year, when I had my first meeting with Metro South Health,” Mrs Roper said.
“And now, we’ve just been told the project is recommended by the Government … to go to all state primary and high schools in Queensland.
This is great for dentistry and a massive milestone. Tooth Fairy & Co are spreading their wings after twenty years of operation in the Redlands.
The dental van has been specially decked out to ensure a positive dentistry experience for the students.
“The inside of the van has been decorated like fairyland, similar to our locations in Ormiston and Thornlands,” Mrs Roper said.
“It’s all really cool when the kids walk in … it’s just magical.
The dental van will increase access for school-aged children and operate through a consent process to take students out of class for a treatment.
Depending on the outcome and Tooth Fairy advice, a letter would then be sent home with the student with advice for further work, or recognition that the student was taking good care of their teeth.
The visits are at the discretion of the state schools, which would be able to organise times by contacting the Tooth Fairy and Co dentistry.
