The 2024-25 Queensland Budget has been praised by Member for Capalaba Don Brown for its cost-of-living relief and other wins for Redlanders.

Mr Brown said highlights included a large energy bill discount, new 50 cent transport fares, the freezing of driver’s licence fees, and slashing of stamp duty.

His office reported that Redlanders would be among the recipients to benefit most with the new cost-of-living measures.

Mr Brown said he was thrilled to present Redlanders with the recent State Budget which prioritises cost-of-living.

“We are the envy of every other state and pushing the way when it comes to getting young people in housing,” he said.

“First home buyers have had enough, that’s why we’ve abolished the stamp duty for homes up to $700,000 and doubled the first home buyers grant.

“We know people are struggling with cost of living, that’s why our Labor Government is committed to improving the lives of everyday working Queenslanders.”

Mr Brown said the 50 cent transport fare incentive would benefit the environment and ease congestion on the roads as well provide an affordable alternative for travellers.

“We’ve increased our FairPlay sporting vouchers to $200, frozen all government fees including drivers and fishing licences, and slashed rego fees by 20 per cent,” he said.

“Every household will get $1300 off their energy bills, with seniors getting an additional $372 on top of that figure.

“Whether you are a uni student now being able to catch really cheap public transport for 50 cents, or a mum and dad wanting affordable after-school sporting opportunities for their kids – we’ve considered everyone in our community in this Budget.”
