THIRTY-THREE students from five schools including Sheldon College, Faith Lutheran, Victoria Point SHS, Wellington Point SHS and Alexandra Hills SHS, Local high school students attend an International Women’s Day breakfast organised by Soroptimist International.

The event welcomed guest speaker Katura Halleday, who shared her story of travelling to Mozambique at the age of 13 and how she was inspired to help other children with their educational pursuits.

Ms Halleday, now 19 years old, has shared funds and goods to the value of approximately $270,000 to Mozambique since 2019.

She said the goods included computers, furniture and other educational materials, and established her “8 X 8 to Education” program to raise money through an art exhibition.

The event organiser said both adults and students were “equally impressed by the selfless efforts of the impressive young woman”.

“She certainly epitomised this year’s International Women’s Day theme #inspireInclusion and the United Nations theme ‘Count Her In – Invest in Women; Accelerate Progress’. ”

Founded in 1921 Soroptimist International is a global volunteer movement advocating for human rights and gender equality.
