Saturday Redlands United were at home at the Compass Grounds once again for their Round 4 NPL Men’s clash with the Sunshine Coast Wanderers FC which ended in a 2 all draw after 2 late goals in 4 minutes gave the visitors a share of the points.

Redlands opened the scoring through Peter Klaassen right on the cusp of half time. Playing out of defense, under some pressure, the Red Devils produced some great passing play before Rio Emoto’s deft touch played Klaassen in who powered the ball past the Wanderers keeper. The home side went into the half time break leading 1-0.

After the break the Red Devils went 2 goals up on 63 minutes. With Wanderers pressing high looking for an equalizer, Captain Sam Langley latched onto a deft return pass from Josh Turino, and from his own half, released James Bonomi who beat the Wanderer’s defense and slid the ball past the keeper into the net for Redlands 2nd. The goal sent their supporters in the Devil’s Den behind the goal Into raptures as the players celebrated with them.

In the 88th minute Wanderers scored direct from a free kick from outside the box to narrow the score-line.

They then scored the equalizer during the 91st minute, when a cross across the box took an unlucky deflection into the net.

Redlands almost regained the lead with six minutes of extra time gone, when Klaassen‘s header hit the crossbar with the keeper beaten.

The final result saw the points shared between the two teams at 2-2.

Post game Redlands United Head Coach Griff Mansfield commented “Another game of fine margins which shows how competitive each game in this league is. As always we use these experiences to keep looking forward”.

Next weekend Redlands are on the road over to Newmarket, when they play Brisbane City FC at Imperial Corp Stadium in Round 5 of the NPL Men’s competition. Kick Off is at 5.15pm on Saturday with the Under 23’s at 7.15pm.

Let’s get your Red on, get over to Newmarket, and be there to cheer and support your Red Devils.
