IN the Mayor’s Message describing the 2023–2024 Redland City Budget, Your Community Budget, the Mayor states where money will be spent on the Moreton Bay Islands:

“The Budget also includes significant funding for our Southern Moreton Bay Islands with $2 million for green sealing of roads; $301,000 for the completion stage of the SMBI Ferry Terminals Upgrade, which will happen in partnership with the State Government; and another $301,000 towards completion works at the Lamb, Russell, Macleay and Karragarra Islands commuter interchanges. North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) will also benefit with $1.5 million for upgrades to the Dunwich Wastewater Treatment Plant.”

During COVID, national and intranational people began looking towards Queensland as a safe getaway location. In particular, buyers recognised the quiet, beauty of the Southern Moreton Islands and quickly went on to purchase their own piece of paradise.

As the population has grown, so has the need to satisfy infrastructure requirements. The Ferry Terminal Upgrade is part of this infrastructure and makes Island living even more of an attractive get away or for some, a permanent home.
