In a game-changing move, Bayside United Football Club is revolutionizing soccer for mums as it offers the opportunity shift from the sidelines to playing on the field.

Last March, after stepping into the role of Bayside United FC fPresident, Andrew Dale discovered it was time initiate positive action was taken to secure a sound footing for the club’s finances. After extensive club talks, a unique idea was born.

“The committee and I needed to discuss what the club was truly about, what the club stood for and what the community needed,” he said.

“One of our brainstorming ideas was our summer series which was very popular with the club, and we then thought why the mums couldn’t play summer sixes too?”

Mr Dale said he was blown away after having o more than 70 mums sign up for the series and mentioned noteworthy creative team names including “Wine O’clock” and “Winge O’clock”.

“These mums who could not even kick a ball and did not know what direction to play were having an absolute blast every Friday night,” he said.

“It was all just a bit of fun.”

After the successful summer series, Mr Dale said the club decided to open registrations again for a term-by-term commitment mums and friends’ competition.

“The term-by-term commitment is great for busy parents as you have that flexibility to suit your lifestyle,” Mr Dale said.

“We will start with 10-minute halves in Term 2 to get back in the groove, building up to 15-minute halves in Term 3 when we’re all a bit fitter.”

Mr Dale said the competition created a wonderful community and family atmosphere at the club and was the perfect way to end the week.

“It is such a great outlet for the end of the week to go play a game of soccer,” he said.
