Local group Wildlife Rescue Minjerribah (WRM) achieved a remarkable fundraising feat, amassing nearly $25,000 during its inaugural event held at Straddie Brewing on November 23.
WRM, operated entirely by volunteers, focuses on wildlife rescue on North Stradbroke Island. Secretary Sian Mackenzie expressed delight at the event’s success, attended by more than 100 guests, including Division 9 Councillor Adelia Berridge.
Sian Mackenzie said, “‘The effort was substantial, but the outcome was truly rewarding. The stunning location coupled with favorable weather created an amazing atmosphere.”
The event showcased delectable canapés featuring local island produce and boasted auctions, entertainment, and live music. The fundraiser surpassed expectations, raising approximately $15,000 on site and an additional $10,000 through their fundraising page.
Ms Mackenzie praised the generosity of local and mainland businesses for donating auction items, highlighting SeaWorld passes and holiday accommodation packages as crowd favorites.
Noteworthy moments included the captivating Welcome to Country by Josh Walker and Family and the recognition of Head Rescuer Pauly Debono for his exceptional service to the island’s wildlife.
Expressing gratitude to attendees and contributors, Mackenzie expressed her gratitud to attendees and contributors saying: ‘The event’s success owes to the attendees, businesses, and the provisions generously provided.”
