REDLANDS teenager Hudson Brown is juggling one of the most demanding double acts imaginable, representing Australia on the world stage while still finishing his final year of high school.
The 17-year-old gymnast was recently named as one of Queensland’s top 10 athletes to watch on the road to Brisbane 2032, a nod he describes as “cool” but not something that changes his approach.
“There are so many awesome gymnasts in Queensland,” he said.
“I just want to keep improving and learn from every competition.
“Wearing the green and gold is an honour every time and one I don’t take for granted.”
Hudson will fly to China in November for the World Age Championships, where he will compete against the strongest junior athletes on the planet.
In between routines, he’ll sit his ATAR Maths Methods exam in a hotel room.
“It’s been a busy year,” he said.
“I’ve got better at managing my time, but I’ve definitely had moments where I’ve taken my laptop to the gym to finish schoolwork before training.”
The exam falls on the day between his competitions, a stroke of luck he doesn’t take lightly.
“This year has been more stressful with the Worlds coming up,” he said.
“But I’ve been balancing school and training for a few years now.”
With Brisbane 2032 edging closer, Hudson admits the dream of a home Olympics feels increasingly real.
“Seeing the emblems come out makes it feel a lot more tangible,” he said.
“Competing at a home games would be incredible, but I know there’s a lot to do before then.”
