A BOAT engine, a Christmas tree, a vehicle towbar and a Starlink satellite kit are among the bizarre treasures left behind by travellers at Brisbane Airport – and now they could be yours.

Brisbane Airport’s annual Lost Property Auction is live, with almost 700 lots of unclaimed belongings set to go under the hammer after a year in which 25 million passengers passed through the terminals.

There are laptops, iPads, smartwatches, luxury perfumes, gaming consoles, drones, surfboards, e-scooters, power tools, a guitar and dozens of AirPods.

But it is the truly odd items that have airport staff scratching their heads.

An outboard motor, weed trimmer, sewing machine, equestrian helmet, new-in-box Ariat boots, a wedding hat and a full Christmas tree.

And for aviation buffs, there is a rare chance to own a slice of Brisbane Airport history.

Parts from the Fokker F28 Fellowship aircraft once displayed at the airport’s iconic Fellowship Place are included in the sale including a pilot’s seat, nose cone, instrument panel, lights and pilot’s yoke.

The auction also features VIP sporting experiences including Brisbane Lions, Broncos, Roar and Heat packages plus an exclusive Brisbane Airport airside tour and a year of free airport parking.

Brisbane Airport chief executive Gert-Jan de Graaff said every dollar raised would go to the Children’s Hospital Foundation.

“The Queensland Children’s Hospital cares for children from communities right across the State, so we’re incredibly proud that something as simple as giving lost property a second chance can ultimately help Queensland families when they need it most,” he said.

Children’s Hospital Foundation chief executive Lyndsey Rice said every bid would support sick and injured children and their families.

Funds raised will support research, equipment and programs for children receiving care across Queensland.

Also up for auction is Sparkly Brain, a two-metre sculpture by Brisbane artist Rachel Burke.

Lloyds Auctions is donating its services for the fundraiser, and bidding closes on November 8 when the sale will finish with a livestreamed auction.
