READERS have spoken and this week’s crown for Best Steak goes to Elysium Restaurant and Bar in Victoria Point, a spot locals have long whispered about but which now officially sits at the top of the region’s grill game.

I headed in at lunchtime to see what all the fuss was about, and as someone who’s never been big on fat, I went straight for a medium rare rump, while noting the menu has plenty of options for those who prefer a richer cut like sirloin, rib options, the works.

It’s a solid lineup, and you can tell they take pride in offering variety for every kind of steak lover.

You can pair your steak with fries, salad or a handful of other sides, but I kept it simple with fries, which turned out to be wedges, a pleasant surprise.

They were nicely done, although I did end up adding a generous amount of seasoning, however, if you’ve read my previous pieces, you’ll know I’m a salt and pepper fiend so that’s hardly a criticism.

Now, the main event.

The steak itself was good quality, clearly handled with care, but my only note is that the edges were slightly more cooked than your usual medium rare.

For me, that’s not a deal breaker.

I’m not precious about exact doneness but it’s worth mentioning for readers who are sticklers for precision.

I also ordered pepper sauce, although Elysium offers several others if you’re chasing something different, and honestly, the sauce was a standout.

Packed with flavour, rich, and with a consistency closer to a good BBQ sauce – thick, glossy, and genuinely delicious – it really tied the whole plate together.

Overall, Elysium delivers a strong, satisfying steak experience with personality, good produce and a menu built for both the simple eaters and the steak purists.

For me, it lands comfortably at 7.5 to 8 out of 10, a deserved win for week three.
