WYNNUM Wolves have unveiled a new senior men’s coaching team for 2027, with Gabby Hawash appointed head coach and senior men’s director, joined by assistant coaches Luke DeVere and Jack Mastric.

Hawash will lead the Wolves into their next chapter after holding a range of coaching and technical leadership roles across Queensland football, spanning player development and senior programs.

He said the club’s growth and ambition made the opportunity an appealing fit.

“The club has grown massively over the past five to 10 years, and that aligns really well with where I am as a young coach,” Hawash said.

“Speaking with Rabieh (Krayem) and Karl (Dodd), there was real alignment between what I wanted and the club’s vision.

“I’m looking forward to working with everyone at the club and in the community to bring an attractive brand of football, both on and off the field, and to win games.”

Hawash said he wanted his side to be known for an aggressive, front-foot style that gave Wolves supporters something to be proud of.

“I’m passionate, driven and very detailed in what I do,” he said.

“On the field, I want our teams to be aggressive and play on the front foot. We want to take the initiative and play an attractive brand of football.

“One thing I can assure supporters is that the Wynnum Wolves first team and senior program next year will work extremely hard and play football that warrants supporters coming back to watch us.”

DeVere arrives at Wolves after serving as Holland Park Hawks’ FQPL 1 men’s head coach, bringing high-level playing and coaching experience to Hawash’s staff.

He said the chance to return to the NPL environment with an ambitious club was a major drawcard.

“There has obviously been a lot of work put into the club and that ambition is appealing to me,” DeVere said.

“The opportunity to work alongside good people in Gabby, Jack and the other staff was a big part of it.”

DeVere hopes to use his professional playing background to help players develop through individual and tactical coaching.

“Hopefully, I can provide some tailored, individual and specific tactical work – particularly around relational awareness – and give players some benefit from our own experiences playing at a decent level,” he said.

Completing the new coaching group is Mastric, a B-Licence coach and University of Queensland psychology student who also joins Wolves from Holland Park Hawks.

Mastric has coached across Hawks’ higher youth development programs, progressing from the under-16s through to senior football.

He said Wolves’ aspiration to rise through the NPL ranks was compelling.

“Being part of a club with that shared goal of improving and being the best is really exciting,” Mastric said.

He hopes to assist the group tactically while drawing on his psychology studies to support players and the wider team environment.
