Scott Wintle has come away with his best results after breaking his own world record at the 2023 World Disabled Water Ski Championships.
After several days of skiing, Wellington Point resident Scott Wintle has returned home with a gold medal, two silver medals and a new world record.
“It has been a big lead-up to the event, but the results were very much worth it,” Wintle said.
After securing gold for the past five consecutive years, Wintle has made a name for himself in the jump category.
However, he took his performance to a new level this year and broke his own 2019 world record.
Wintle has now set the world record at 20.7m with his previous record being 19.5m.
“They originally measured the jump at 20.2m but luckily they revised it and went to 20.7m,” he said.
Wintle said although this was an achievement, his main goal of the competition was the slalom event.
“It was the first time I have ever competed in the slalom event and just being able to get over the nerves was a big achievement for me,” he said.
“I even managed to get a silver medal which was fantastic.”
The 2023 World Disabled Water Ski Championships were held in Sacramento, California and Wintle said he felt very lucky to ski at such a great location.
“It is one of the best ski sites in the world and it was such a pleasure to ride,” Wintle said.
“All the people, volunteers and organisers were very supportive, and the competition was very well run.”
Wintle first tried water skiing in 1998 and said he loved it straight away.
He said the sport had blessed him with travelling the world and meeting great people.
“It has been a long journey but has been very enjoyable,” he said.
