Redland City FC has claimed a grand final double, with the club’s division seven and eight Metro Men’s teams both claiming silverware on Sunday.

Division seven downed Rochedale Rovers 5-1 to clinch the title and finish the season undefeated, while division eight scored a late goal to sink Logan Lightning 2-1.

Both games were played at a neutral venue in Logan, but there was no shortage of support for Redland on the sidelines.

Dozens of supporters – including friends, family, club volunteers and members – made the trip out to the ground on Father’s Day to cheer the Redbacks home.

City piled on five goals in the division seven decider to seal a remarkable season that included a 13-1 rout of cross-town rivals Redlands United in the semi-final just a week earlier.

Joao Rodrigues, Alfie Elliott, Ben Woolacott, Mal Hurman and Jake McGoldrick all notched goals to help the Redbacks complete a rare perfect season.

City took the advantage through Rodrigues inside just three minutes, but it was midway through the second half that the floodgates opened as Elliott, Woolacott and Hurman scored in quick succession.

McGoldrick put the result beyond doubt in the 83rd minute with a driven shot from just inside the 18-yard box that sailed past the keeper and found the bottom of the net, extending the lead to 5-0.

Rochedale got one back in the dying stages but it was little more than a consolation as Redlands ran out 5-1 winners to lift the grand final trophy and the premier’s cup.

Earlier, in the division eight final, Dylan Steenson scored the match-winning goal in the 83rd minute to sink Logan Lightning.

City took the lead inside the opening minute through Christian Vanamo, but Lightning fought back in the second half to level the game 1-1 with about 20 minutes to play.

Steenson landed the decisive blow, with his goal on 83 minutes proving the difference in an exciting encounter that set the tone for a successful afternoon and evening.

Just a week earlier the Redbacks held their nerve to trump top of the table Souths United on penalties, seeing them secure a well-deserved place in the final.
