Chiara Tomasi, 15, of Wellington Point is following her father Enzo’s footsteps on the bocce dome, representing Australia in bocce in October and November.

In October, she will play in the Australian Junior bocce team in Monaco then in November, she will compete as part of the Women’s World championship being played in Rumilly, France and in the St Vulbar mixed challenge.

This will be her second international competition having represented Australian juniors in 2022 with her sister Ava in Monaco.

The team came fourth out of 24 countries.

In 2022, Enzo represented Australia in the Men’s International Volvo championship in Turkey.
Chiara’s talent with the sport was recognised at the Australian Bocce National Seniors Championship played in June where she came first in Australia and gained a standing ovation as best and fairest, at age 14.

Chiara said she was excited and proud of the new challenge.

“The sport opens up friendships and I am excited to see those people I met last year again,” she said.

“This time I know what to expect.”

Chiara said she started playing bocce with the Redlands Sporting Club two years ago and really enjoyed the sport.

Her mother Corinne said Bocce Australia had embraced some new strategies, which combined with traditions had made the sport more exciting.

“It’s a great sport for making friends and having fun,” she said.

Corinne said the club was holding a fundraiser for Chiara at 2.30pm on August 26 at the Redland Sporting Club bocce dome. Tickets are $20 and $10 and include bocce, beer and bubbles. Enquiries to 0435 779 664.
