CLEVELAND’S own George’s Gourmet Meats has earned national recognition, taking out second place in Australia in the gourmet/open class sausage category at the Australian Meat Excellence Awards for its standout Canadian pork and maple sausage.
The prestigious awards, hosted by the Australian Meat Industry Council in Melbourne, brought together the country’s top butchers and smallgoods makers, including competitors from the renowned Sausage King and national charcuterie competitions.
The Cleveland Central butcher didn’t stop at a single accolade.
George’s Gourmet Meats also collected multiple medals across several categories, securing gold for its bone in ham, middle bacon rashers and honey kabana, along with silver for its dry-cured maple espresso bacon and chilli cheese kransky.
Owner George Alderson was also named a finalist in the national Smallgoods Young Achiever Award, further cementing his reputation as one of the industry’s rising talents.
“We’re incredibly proud to be recognised on a national level,” Mr Alderson said.
“It comes down to quality product, quality workmanship and doing as much as we can in house.
“We’re passionate about what we do, from sourcing great ingredients to producing our own smallgoods, and it’s rewarding to see that recognised across Australia.”
Cleveland Central Centre Manager Jocelyn Sakeson said the achievement was one the entire community could celebrate.
“This is an incredible achievement for George and the team, and something the entire Cleveland community can be proud of,” she said.
“George’s Gourmet Meats continues to set the standard for quality, and we’re fortunate to have such a high calibre retailer at Cleveland Central.”
The Australian Meat Excellence Awards shine a spotlight on craftsmanship, innovation and quality across the industry.
For locals, the results are a reminder that some of the nation’s best smallgoods are being crafted right here in the Redlands.
