Aspiring first home buyers in the Redlands are being invited to share their experiences and concerns at a community forum hosted by Member for Redlands and Assistant Minister for Planning, Housing and Better Regulation Rebecca Young.
The State “What Matters to First Home Buyers” event will be held from 2-4pm on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at the Redland Bay Golf Club.
The forum is designed to give locals an opportunity to outline the barriers they face when trying to enter the housing market, including affordability pressures, saving for a deposit, supply constraints and planning delays.
Mrs Young said sitting down for a drink and chat with Redlands aspiring first home buyers was crucial to understanding what support is available to them, and what other barriers their face.
“As new housing supply, including affordable homes within the Southern Thornlands Priority Development Area, is set to come online in the Redlands, I want our local first home buyers to be ready to hit go,” she said.
“We are working hard to keep the dream of home ownership alive for Queenslanders, but we know there is more to do.
“We’ve already abolished stamp duty for first home buyers building or purchasing new homes and extended the $30,000 First Homeowner Grant.
“The Crisafulli Government also launched the Boost to Buy shared equity scheme with as little as a 2 per cent deposit and allowed first home buyers to rent out a room from day one without losing their grants — but I want to know directly from Redlanders, what else needs to change.”
Locals interested in attending the forum are encouraged to RSVP online via Mrs Young’s website.
