Micro-credentialing and short courses are the new way to up skill. With micro-credentials and short courses, individuals can easily personalise their learning and quickly gain the skills and knowledge necessary to advance in their current career or begin a new one.

Micro-credentials are mini qualifications that demonstrate skills, knowledge and/or experience in a given subject area or capability. In order for workplaces to remain competitive and ensure employees are continuing to develop new capabilities, micro-credentialing gives a way for employers to map an employee’s career pathway and quantify any types of skills development needed within the workplace, then utilise micro-credentialing and short course solutions to efficiently up-skill staff in identified areas.

Foster the development of your staff skills in this highly effective way. Statistics show that nearly 59 per cent of employees claim they had no workplace training and that most of their skills were self-taught. 74 per cent of workers are willing to learn new skills or re-train in order to remain employable and 87 per cent of millennials believe learning and development in the workplace is important.

So, whether your organisation is seeking ways to supplement traditional credentials, train staff in soft skills, or provide highly individualised programs to meet unique skills gaps, micro-credentialing and short course offerings are a valuable option when it comes to choosing the right training offerings for your team.

Upskilling your team not only increases their skills, but also allows your business to remain industry relevant and competitive, creating increased efficiency and happier employees and decreased staff turnover.

When it comes to up skilling small business owners and operators, we are lucky enough to have secured a new short course offering here in the Redlands. It is the University of Sunshine Coast’s ‘Business Planning’ short course. This course is designed to provide local business owners/operators with a clear understanding of the key factors that underpin their success and are critical to their businesses long-term survival.

This short course will operate for just three hours every Tuesday morning, for seven weeks, beginning August 15 at MyHorizon’s Capalaba Training centre. This short course is completely free for businesses to enrol in, if they have fewer than 20 (full-time equivalent) staff and have been operating for at least 12 months. Visit the USC website to learn more (enrolments close August 7). Visit usc.edu.au/bpc to learn more.

For over three years now the Redlands Coast Chamber of Commerce has been operating the Redlands Regional Jobs Committee (RJC), proudly supported and funded by the Queensland Government. The RJC have created a Get Skilled Training Directory to help Redlands businesses and community members locate local training and education providers and course offerings.

Empower your workforce and stay ahead in today’s dynamic business landscape, by giving your staff and your business a competitive edge. You can discover course providers at redlandscoastchamber.org.au.
