Urgent Move to Fast-Track Weinam Creek Multi-Story Car Park

Redland City Council is considering a late urgent motion to fast-track the construction of a multi-story car park at Weinam Creek.

The proposal, put forward by Cr Shane Rendalls, was tabled at this morning’s council meeting.

Cr Rendalls told fellow councillors the motion seeks to delegate authority to the council CEO to accelerate the project, which includes a range of subcomponents aimed at reducing disruption and improving community access.

“The reason this is urgent is that it became clear in a meeting with state members and the Director-General of Economic Development Queensland that there is a clear commitment by the state to build and deliver the multi-story car park at Weinam Creek,” Cr Rendalls said.

He added the move would reduce the impact on islanders’ parking during construction and restore the waterfront foreshore, a rare and valuable community asset, for public use.

Cr Rendalls said the matter could not wait for the next council meeting and could not be dealt with administratively, as it involves a delegation of powers that only councillors can authorise.

The motion is expected to be considered in confidential session, with councillors yet to vote on whether to approve the delegation to the CEO.
