The Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation (QYAC) is pleased to announce the re-election of Cameron Costello as Chair of the organisation, following its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Minjerribah on Saturday December 6.
A proud Quandamooka man, Mr Costello brings a wealth of organisational knowledge and experience to QYAC, having previously served as the CEO from 2013 to 2020 and was the inaugural Chairperson of Minjerribah Camping.
He also has extensive leadership experience, holding positions on local, state, and national Boards and Committees including the Queensland Tourism Industry Council, the Queensland Government’s Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Legacy Committee and the Brisbane City Council Reconciliation Action Plan Advisory Group.
Recently, he held positions on national advisory groups for Austrade and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
Mr Costello has helped guide QYAC as Chair since February 2024, through a period of transformation across the organisation and has overseen the opening of the QUAMPI arts and culture centre, the return of the Quandamooka Festival and the ongoing success of Minjerribah Camping.
Last week, QYAC announced a $6 Million profit for FY 2024-25.
Commenting on his re-election as Chair, Mr Costello said: “I am honoured and humbled to lead the organisation as Chair for another 12-months.
“I am looking forward to working with the Board, our new Executive Team and all of our hard-working QYAC staff to drive our Strategic Agenda. I will be focusing on strengthening our engagement with the local community, industry and Government to create new economic development opportunities on Minjerriba. Importantly, our focus will be on continuing to deliver Native Title outcomes, ensuring the protection of Country for our future generations.
“Under new CEO Fiona Cornforth and COO Joanne Gonsalves, we’ll also be building on our robust financial position, undertaking a review of operations and looking at strategies to better plan and manage our cost base and streamline operational processes to reduce overheads and avoid duplication in shared services across QYAC and Minjerribah Camping and prioritise revenue-generating activities in cultural tourism and other high-value services.”
Mr Costello thanked outgoing Board member Earl Morgan for his service to QYAC and welcomed new members to the Board representing their families, which are named in brackets: Jillian Jacob (Nellie/Lilly Kidgeree); Charlene Gordon (Lillian Lyons); Aileen Moreton-Robinson (Charlie Moreton (Dandruba)); and Keiron Costelloe (Tommy Nuggin (Gendarieba)), who was returned to the Board.
