WYNNUM, a cherished part of Brisbane’s Bayside, is on the cusp of a major transformation.

The Wynnum Centre Suburban Renewal Precinct Plan is not just another urban development project – it’s an opportunity to shape the future for generations to come.

At the heart of this plan is the promise to enhance transport connections, stimulate local businesses, and provide new housing options.

These are all essential ingredients for the ongoing success of Wynnum as a vibrant, desirable place to live, work, and relax.

Yet, as with any major development, it is crucial that the voices of the people who call this area home are heard.

Our suburb is growing, and with that comes the challenge of maintaining the unique character that makes Wynnum special.

It’s not just about upgrading streets and buildings; it’s about ensuring that any changes enhance what’s already here – the local businesses, the community feel, and the natural beauty of our waterfront.

Wynnum’s central business district is the heart of the community, and as it evolves, it’s important that it remains
a place where people want to gather, shop, work and live.

There’s potential here for more than just a facelift; it’s a chance to create a thriving, inclusive space that works for everyone, from young families to retirees, and from small business owners to large employers.

The balance between growth and preserving local charm will be key.

The involvement of Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner and Councillor Alex Givney in this project is promising.

Their commitment to working alongside the community and ensuring our input shapes the planning process is exactly what is needed in a project of this scale.

The result will only be as good as the feedback we provide, so it’s vital that we make our voices heard.

However, the consultation period – running until May 18 – is not just a formality.

It’s a real opportunity to make a difference.

While the Council and planners have ideas, the people who live here know best what will work for our community.

Whether it’s improving pedestrian spaces, making sure parking is convenient, or ensuring there’s a balance of new development and green space, every opinion matters.

As we look ahead to the exciting changes that are coming to Wynnum, we must not forget what makes this place so wonderful in the first place.

The sense of community, the proximity to the water, and the local businesses that make us proud to live here are all irreplaceable elements.

Together, we can help shape a Wynnum that continues to thrive – one that blends growth with the character that makes it unique.
