A CHARITY golf day at Wynnum Golf Club is set to shine a spotlight on prostate cancer, with organisers hoping the event will encourage more men across Brisbane’s Bayside to prioritise their health.

Event organiser Ron Johnson said the idea began after seeing how successful and community building the women’s breast cancer charity days were at the club.

“I saw all the ladies having breast cancer days and I said to my wife, ‘there’s nothing that happens for the men’,” he said.

“There are a lot of men at the club who’ve had prostate cancer, currently have it, or have just been diagnosed.”

With support from the club and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, the event has now grown into its third year.

Mr Johnson said the day has already helped break down stigma around men’s health.

“A lot of the men didn’t know what to do,” he said.

“The first year, we had a speaker telling them to get checked.

“Men don’t talk about these things, but hearing from someone who’d been through it made a difference.”

This year’s event has attracted major support from Greenslopes Private Hospital.

CEO Justin Greenwell said the partnership aligned with Ramsay Health Care’s long-standing commitment to men’s health.

“The opening of Ramsay Surgical Centre Cleveland in August 2026 will mark an important health care expansion for the Redlands and Bayside community,” Mr Greenwell said.

The new centre will offer biopsies, cystoscopies and other urology services locally.

Locals can register for the golf day via the QR code at Wynnum Golf Club or Golf World Capalaba with all proceeds supporting the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
