A FICTION lover’s haven is drawing readers into Wellington Point Village where books, coffee and community come together at Fiction Over Reality.

Opened last November, the independent bookshop has been a family labour of love for owner Aimee Boyd and her sister Holly, who set out to create a welcoming sanctuary for people who love getting lost in a good story.

At 4/400 Main Rd, Fiction Over Reality specialises in fiction across a range of genres, including romance, fantasy, special editions and titles by established and local independent authors.

Customers can browse the shelves, then settle in with a freshly brewed coffee and pastry as they begin their next read.

“Fiction Over Reality is more than just a bookshop – it’s a sanctuary for story lovers,” the business says.

The shop also stocks bookish gifts including candles, bookmarks, pins and puzzles, helping make it a destination for readers searching for something a little different.

But it is the events calendar that has helped build a loyal community around the store.

Fiction Over Reality hosts a monthly book club, books and craft nights, school holiday activities, private events, midnight release parties and author signings.

The store is planning a major celebration for Love Your Bookshop Day, with five Brisbane and Gold Coast authors set to appear: How to Kill a Guy in 10 Dates author Shailee Thompson, Anneka-Rose Burrell (Meet Me Afterlife), Lauren Jackson (Mine After Midnight), Em Hardy (Ruined) and K.S. Elliott (Ultan Academy).

Readers will also have access to exclusive early releases from Anneka-Rose Burrell and Lauren Jackson, along with giveaways throughout the day.

Young book lovers can join an in-store Where’s Wally? treasure hunt.

The store has earned a 5.0 rating from 12 Google reviews, with visitors repeatedly praising its cosy atmosphere, customer service and carefully chosen range.

Tayla Smith described it as “such a beautiful little book store with the friendliest staff”, while Rene Eustance-Zohn said the selection of candles, bookmarks, pins and puzzles was “incredible”.

James said the passion behind the shop was clear, adding staff had given him “a fantastic book recommendation”.

Maddie Cameron said the shop had grown impressively since her first visit.

“The staff were lovely and genuinely welcoming, and the range of genres and special edition books was impressive, especially for such reasonable prices,” she said.

Patricia Maher praised the “beautiful store, excellent service and wonderful selection of books”, while Kylie Atkinson said the helpful owner, reasonable prices and large range had won her over.

“What a gorgeous bookshop,” she said.

The team says the community’s support has meant a great deal.

“The local community has been so supportive of us being here and we love being a part of Wellington Point Village,” they said.

Fiction Over Reality is at 4/400 Main Rd, Wellington Point.
