CONSTRUCTION of a major new multi-level car park and retail precinct at Weinam Creek is expected to start in mid-2026 as part of the ongoing redevelopment of the Weinam Creek Priority Development Area.

A Redland Investment Corporation (RIC) spokesperson confirmed the project was progressing.

“The redevelopment of the Weinam Creek Priority Development Area is well underway,” the spokesperson said.

“This exciting project is the result of extensive community consultation that responds to much-needed infrastructure improvements, including easing parking pressures.”

The RIC spokesperson said community feedback shaped the project beyond just solving parking issues.

“What became clear during the consultation process was that we needed to provide more than just increased parking,” the spokesperson said. “It was identified that there was a need to provide additional services such as grocery, retail and medical, as well as allowing for additional transport options, including a car share operation and improved public transport to the marina to assist in reducing some of the need to park a second vehicle at the marina ferry terminal.”

The project will include two separate facilities: a state-owned multi-level car park with about 2100 spaces, and a Council-delivered retail precinct with around 240 parking spaces.

It is expected that the shopping centre parking will be free for up to three hours, with overnight parking available to island residents – though all arrangements remain subject to final planning confirmation.

RIC welcomed the Queensland Government’s commitment to the Southern Moreton Bay Island Parking Relief Plan, which includes ferry fare subsidies, free car share membership, and a new multi-level car park for island commuters.

State Member for Redlands Rebecca Young said the car park was due for completion by 2028.
