FOR many older Australians, there’s no place like home. Even as their needs change, most still prefer to remain living in familiar surroundings.
In response to this growing preference, the Australian Government has introduced Support at Home, a Government-funded program designed to help older Australians live safely, comfortably and independently in their own homes.
The program provides practical in-home support that makes everyday life easier, while helping people maintain their independence and stay connected to their community.
Services can range from basic assistance through to more comprehensive care, and can be adjusted over time as needs change.
Support at Home may include help with household tasks, personal care, transport, and access to health and wellbeing services, giving people greater choice and control over how they live as they age.
However, for many families, understanding entitlements, assessments and next steps can feel overwhelming. That’s where Adventist Retirement Plus provides important support.
With a strong local presence in the Redlands, the Adventist Retirement Plus Home Care team works closely with older Australians and their families to explain how the program works in simple terms, helping them understand what they may be eligible for and how to move forward with confidence.
Adventist Retirement Plus Home Care’s team supports people by:
- Meeting locally with older people and their families
- Helping them understand their entitlements
- Guiding them through the assessment and application process
- Assisting them to access services that support independent living at home.
Once approved by the Government, individuals are assigned a funding level based on their assessed needs. Support at Home offers a range of funding tiers, from lower levels of support through to more comprehensive packages for those with higher care needs.
Depending on eligibility, funding may reach up to approximately $78,000 per year, with potential for additional support.
Understanding costs is an important part of the process. Those receiving a full Age Pension typically pay a smaller contribution, while part pensioners and self-funded retirees may contribute more toward everyday living and independence services
These contributions help ensure the system remains fair and sustainable.
Clinical care services such as nursing and allied health are fully funded by the Government, meaning there are no out-of-pocket costs for these supports.
Adventist Retirement Plus exists to enrich the lives of older people by providing home care services grounded in Christian values of kindness, dignity and respect.
Through the new Support at Home Program, Adventist Retirement Plus is here for you with genuine personalised home care built around each individual’s lifestyle needs and circumstances.
