Four popular Redlands Coast sporting grounds are set to be enhanced with modern, sustainable LED lighting, improving experiences for players and supporters across several local clubs.

New lighting will be installed at EGW Wood Sportsfield in Wellington Point, Redlands Softball Park in Ormiston and Redlands Baseball Park in Capalaba, under a multi-million-dollar project supported through the South East Queensland (SEQ) Liveability Fund.

Council is also funding the installation of new lighting at John Fredericks Park in Capalaba.

Redland City Mayor Jos Mitchell said the works would deliver significant benefits for the tenant clubs at each facility.

“This is great news for members, players and supporters at Redlands Rays Baseball Club, Redlands Softball Association, Capalaba Warriors Rugby League Football Club and Redlands Tigers Cricket Club,” the Mayor said.

“All four clubs have been advocating for improved lighting at their fields, and I’m pleased to see these works coming to fruition.

“LED lighting provides superior and safe coverage, is cost-effective, and prevents light spillage outside the venue, which is beneficial for neighbouring properties and surrounding wildlife.

“It will lead to improvements in the way players train for their respective sports and, in the case of Redlands Tigers, will allow the club to play night matches on their main field for the first time.

“The lighting enhancements will transform all four venues and ensure each club has the infrastructure they need to grow in the coming years.”

Sport and Recreation Portfolio representative Cr Jason Colley said the improvements would open new opportunities for players.

“The installation of LED lighting will allow our future champions to practice and play like the professionals,” he said.

“It will also unlock opportunities for each venue to attract more large-scale events and tournaments, which will ultimately benefit the city and our region through increased visitation.

“These works are a huge step forward for the clubs and a great reward for their commitment to growing participation in sport on Redlands Coast.”

The Australian and Queensland Governments are contributing a combined $4.4 million in funding towards the projects at EGW Wood Sportsfield, Redlands Softball Park and Redlands Baseball Park.

The funding contribution is being provided through the SEQ Liveability Fund, a commitment under the SEQ City Deal.

The SEQ City Deal is a partnership between the Australian Government, Queensland Government and Council of Mayors (SEQ) that will deliver long-lasting benefits to the region.

The total project funding also includes a contribution from Redland City Council.

Works are being staggered across the four sites, with all projects expected to be completed by June 2026, conditions permitting.
