The Salvation Army has appointed Major Nathan and Captain Kylie Hodges as the new Corps Officers of its Bayside Corps in Brisbane’s south, bringing decades of leadership experience and a strong focus on community ministry.
Major Nathan and Captain Kylie Hodges have served as Salvation Army Officers for 15 years and 14 years respectively and have recently moved to the Redlands community with their three children and family dog to lead the Bayside Salvos, located at Alexandra Hills.
Their experience includes leadership of multiple churches, regional youth and children’s programs, as well as a recruitment role across New South Wales, the ACT and South Australia before relocating to Queensland.
Before entering Salvation Army Officership, Major Nathan worked as a youth worker, a role that helped shape his ongoing passion for youth and children’s ministry.
In recent years he has also been involved in the local church response to homelessness in Victor Harbor in South Australia and in developing ways for churches to better connect with and support members of the community experiencing hardship.
Captain Kylie previously worked as a primary school teacher and continues to focus on helping young people and families grow and thrive.
Major Nathan and Captain Kylie want to see Bayside Salvos continue to connect with its community, providing a greater level of support for those experiencing hardship, and ultimately see community members who have been doing it tough developing the resilience and strength to face their challenges and overcome the struggles that life throws their way.
They believe that people can experience freedom and transformation in their lives, so that they can experience the fullness of life that everyone was created to have.
The couple said they were also looking forward to exploring the Redlands area with their family.
Along with their three children, they enjoy discovering the communities where they live, whether through four-wheel driving adventures, participating in Parkrun, walking along the water’s edge or visiting community markets.
The Salvation Army’s Bayside Corps serves the Redland City community through a range of programs including family worship services, children’s and youth activities, small groups, and community support initiatives.
Community services include Salvos Connect, which provides food and emergency relief services, financial assistance referrals and a free coffee and chat for anyone needing support.
The Salvation Army said it looked forward to the leadership the pair would bring in strengthening worship, building community connections and supporting people in need across the Redlands community.
