REDLANDS United staged a spirited second-half comeback to snatch a 2-2 draw against Broadbeach in a pulsating Round 14 FQPL clash at Amcal Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Still riding the momentum from their gritty midweek draw with Capalaba, where Isaac Garcia’s header earned them a point, the Red Devils showed signs of fatigue early as Broadbeach took advantage of two first-half defensive lapses to surge into a 2-0 lead before the break.

The visitors opened the scoring when Redlands failed to clear in the box, allowing Nathan Lowe to fire home off the far post.

Broadbeach doubled their lead on 40 minutes through Connor Smith, punishing Redlands again for some slack defending across the face of goal.

Facing a two-goal deficit, Redlands rang the changes at half-time and came out firing.

Jason Park proved a constant threat on the flank, and it was his pinpoint cross on 55 minutes that found Michael Lee in the area.

The veteran striker turned expertly between two defenders and calmly slotted home to halve the deficit.

The home side’s pressure continued to mount, and they were rewarded in the 75th minute when Park was brought down in the box.

Deegan Brook converted the resulting penalty to level the scores at 2-2.

But the drama wasn’t over.

With 10 minutes to play, Keelan Crawford received his second yellow card, reducing Redlands to 10 men.

Keeper D’Cruz was called on to make several key saves as Broadbeach pressed late, but it was Redlands who came closest to snatching all three points – Michael Bradley’s thunderous strike in stoppage time rattling the crossbar.

In the end, the teams settled for a share of the spoils after a fierce, end-
to-end encounter.

Redlands now look ahead to another home fixture on Saturday, where they will host Magic United at 4pm, followed by the Under-23s at 6.15pm.
