THE Redlands Tigers Junior Program got off to a fantastic start last week with some outstanding results across the grades and plenty of individual performances to celebrate.
One of the highlights came from our Taverners side, who secured a thrilling win to start their season.
In a match that went right down to the final over, James Cowan produced a match winning performance with both bat and ball.
After taking an impressive 4/36 with the ball, Cowan kept his composure when it mattered most, hitting the winning runs in the final over to seal a memorable victory for the team.
There were also plenty of reasons to be excited about the talent coming through the BMC Under 16 sides with an incredible four centuries scored across our two teams over the opening weekend.
Taika Hoare, Sam Cotter, Tobias Jorna and Aarav Vaidya all starred with the bat, producing classy centuries to get their season started and giving an early indication of what could be a very exciting season for our junior cricketers.
The performances are a great reward for the work put in across the junior program throughout the pre-season with players and coaches putting in plenty of effort ahead of the season getting underway.
Junior Program Director of Cricket, Dom Cassell, said it was fantastic to see that hard work starting to translate into results.
“Our junior program has worked really hard throughout the pre-season, both individually and as squads, so it’s great to see the players being rewarded with some excellent individual performances and team success in the first round,” Cassell said.
“While it’s still very early in the season, results like these give everyone plenty of confidence and show the quality and depth we have coming through the Redlands Tigers junior program.”
With the season now underway, there is plenty to look forward to across our junior teams with the opening weekend providing a strong start both on the scoreboard and in the development of our next generation of Tigers.
