A GROUNDBREAKING new chapter in mental health support has arrived in the Redlands with the opening of the Redlands Medicare Mental Health Centre.

This week, the Redlands Medicare Mental Health Centre opened at 40 Middle St, Cleveland.

The centre will be staffed by dedicated mental health professionals and individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges to help address the mental health crisis.

Federal Member for Bowman Henry Pike described the opening as a significant milestone for mental health in the Redlands.

“Mental health is a battle that many Redlanders contend with every single day,” he said.

“An estimated 430 people in our community attempt suicide every year.

“That number is way too high – those are our family, our mates and our neighbours.”

The new facility provides free, immediate, and accessible mental health support to anyone in crisis or need, with no requirement for Medicare cards or GP referrals.

Mr Pike said it was a relief to finally have the centre open and ready to serve Redlanders, as the completion date had been uncertain.

“Over the past two and a half years, I’ve worked hard through community advocacy and plenty of emails and phone calls to ensure the Government honour this commitment,” he said.

Mr Pike described the facility as a game-changer for mental health support.
