Support for men with cancer in the Redlands has been available for the past five years through Mens Cancer Support group.

The group offers support for men who have experienced the challenge of a cancer diagnosis.

The group’s efforts even the balance between long term women’s beneficiary groups with research indicating that there are few equivalent groups in Brisbane dedicated to providing support for men embarking on the cancer journey.

Since its inception in 2017, the Incorporated group has raised funds via chook raffles at the Redland Bay Hotel and has become affiliated with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, hosting guest speakers from a wide range of experts in various fields of cancer research and treatment.

Over the past 18 months the group has increased its efforts to raise public awareness of the existence of the group by setting up an information booth at a number of the larger shopping centres across the Redlands and participating in Bay FM radio talkback.

Recently, members of the group visited more than 120 medical related practices seeking the support of the doctors, pharmacists, retirement village managers and aged care residences. Flyers are now available at these sites.

The group meets at 9.30am on the first Tuesday of every month (except January) at the Victoria Point library.
