Redlands Cycling and Multisport Club (RCMC) has excelled again at the IRONMAN event in Port Macquarie.

RCMC had 10 triathletes competing in either the full distance 3800m swim, 180km cycle, 42.2km run or the Ironman 70.3 distance being 1900m swim, 90km cycle and 21.1km run.

The weather conditions were challenging and a heavy rain downpour the day before the racing meant the swim was cancelled due to unhealthy water quality.

Hence, both events became duathlons – ride and run with no swim leg.

Race day was showery, with wet roads meaning riders had to be cautious to avoid accidents, but the day was pleasantly cool.

Spectators and volunteers lining the course gave racers plenty of loving support and encouragement.

The finish line was like a rock concert and many full ironman competitors finished in the dark to the sounds of cheering spectators, loud pumping music with commentary, and coloured lights.

All the RCMC triathletes did extremely well, with most of them gaining podium positions or top 10 positions in their age groups.

In the full Ironman event, Darren Farlow took second in a close race.

Christine Kinlay took third place in her very first full Ironman.

Phil Stoneman also took third place in his event, while Tania Farlow qualified for Kona World Champs.

The IM 70.3 Age Group athletes did the club proud.

Kate Gayner and Dylan Phuah took second place in the mixed team relay 70.3 division.

Kelly Phuah took first place in the individual Ironman 70.3.

David Murtagh and Stuart Kemp had great top 10 finishes, while Lucan O’Brien executed a solid race in a competitive age group.

There’s lots of full-on training coming up for the two Ironman 70.3 triathletes, Kelly Phuah and David Murtagh, who qualified for the World Championships in Marbella Spain in November, and for triathlete Tania Farlow who qualified for the full Ironman World Championship in Kona in October 2025.

These were great results, and full congratulations are due to all competitors.
