The ongoing charity work of Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) will continue in the Redlands with its relocation from Kingston to McArthur Street, Alexandra Hills on February 3.

Renovations were made to the old poultry research station and this work was rewarded with the Rotary Club of Cleveland President Gavin Becker giving three Paul Harris Fellow certificates and pins on the day.

President Elect Clive Shepherd and Paul Prior worked on the project as electricians and club member Steve Bravey did the plumbing.

“These men each donated countless hours over several months to complete the work, often also contributing materials and resources from their own businesses,” Gavin said.

Gavin said this work now enabled others to sort and pack goods into containers for disadvantaged overseas communities.

Club member Anna Bray also received a certificate of appreciation from RAWCS, for cleaning, painting, planning and making signs.

“In addition, without the work by the Club’s Past President Albert Benfer and his liaison with the Redland City Council over the past five years, RARE would not have these excellent premises to work in each week.”

Rotarians and volunteers work at RARE on Thursdays sorting, packing and preparing goods for shipment overseas. RARE is an initiative that establishes an efficient and effective program for distributing medical and educational equipment to disadvantaged communities within Australia and overseas.

“Under a regulative framework, RARE collects valuable donated goods and ensures they find purposeful use in local and international projects. Through RARE, Rotary contributes to humanitarian relief by re-purposing equipment that might otherwise go to waste,” Gavin said.

“By providing essential resources to areas affected by poverty, conflict, or natural disasters, RARE exemplifies the spirit of service and compassion that Rotary embodies.”

Attending the launch Senator Paul Scarr, Henry Pike MHR, Crs Rowanne McKenzie,Wendy Boglary, Peter Mitchell and Paul Bishop and key Rotarians including District Governor Paul Roger, Dai Mason, David Clark, Barry Tennent and John Paskin.
