ANTISEMITIC and obscene material has been discovered inside an apparent Redland City Council contractor compound on Rosebud Esplanade at Point Halloran, sparking concern among local residents.

The compound was reported by a local resident after offensive imagery was found inside the site, including a yellow safety figure defaced with a Hitler-style moustache and the word “nein”, along with crude sexual drawings.

The material has been described as deeply offensive and inappropriate for a public foreshore location.

The resident said the discovery was particularly troubling given the area is regularly used by families, walkers and cyclists.

Redland City Council and Cleveland Police were notified of the matter.

However, it is understood police officers did not attend the site.

The incident has prompted questions about oversight of contractor compounds on public land and how such material was able to be displayed in a highly visible community area.

Residents have called for the immediate removal of the graffiti and for council to explain whether the compound was authorised and what steps will be taken to prevent a recurrence.

Redland City councillor Lance Hewlett was continuing to make inquiries at the time of publication.
