OPERA Queensland’s Studio Sessions are set to bring an intimate burst of world-class music to the Redland Performing Arts Centre (RPAC) this winter with three distinctive recitals scheduled for July 16, August 20 and September 10.
The series marks Opera Queensland’s first appearance at RPAC, offering local audiences a rare chance to experience close-up performances from some of Australia’s leading operatic talents.
The season opens with Alma Latina! on July 16 featuring celebrated Colombian tenor Carlos Bárcenas and pianist John Woods.
The recital promises a vibrant journey through Latin American classics and contemporary favourites, showcasing Bárcenas’s expressive voice and deep connection to his musical heritage.
The performance forms part of Opera Queensland’s broader 2026 Studio Series, which highlights intimate, artist-driven concerts across the State.
On August 20, soprano Alexandra Flood takes centre stage with There’s Nothing Like a Dame, a tribute to Australia’s legendary Dame Joan Sutherland.
Flood, joined by flautist Jonathan Henderson and pianist Vatche Jambazian, will celebrate Sutherland’s centenary with a dazzling program of vocal and instrumental works.
The recital honours one of Australia’s greatest operatic icons while offering audiences a richly personal musical experience.
The series concludes on September 10 with Viva La Voce, a showcase of Opera Queensland’s Young Artists.
Under the mentorship of pianist Alex Raineri, emerging performers will present much-loved opera classics, highlighting the vitality and promise of Queensland’s next generation of operatic talent.
The program aims to create an intimate connection between performers and audiences, emphasising storytelling through song.
RPAC officials say the partnership reflects a shared commitment to bringing exceptional music to local audiences.
Opera Queensland’s Alicia Cush describes the Studio Sessions as concerts “from the heart”, offering a uniquely close and immersive experience between singer, pianist and audience.
Tickets for all three recitals are now available through RPAC with package options offering savings for those eager to enjoy the full Studio Sessions experience.
