THE Neon Boxing Academy team travelled to Bundaberg last weekend to compete at the Wide Bay Championships – a key stepping stone on the road to the prestigious 2025 Boxing Queensland Open International Golden Gloves event in July.

Kipa “The Ripa” Keremete (70kg) was explosive, feeling out his opponent early before unleashing a precise right hook to finish the fight in just 1.5 minutes of round one via referee stoppage (RSC).

Known for his powerful stoppages, Kipa continues to dominate his opponents with his relentless finishing ability.

Heavyweight Alessandro “The Italian Stallion” Lella (92+kg) dominated his opponent throughout all three rounds, delivering powerful punches to both head and body.

Despite his clear control in the ring, the judges’ split decision didn’t go his way this time – a tough call for the Stallion but fuel for his fire moving forward.

Rising star Scott “Super” Myler (70kg) fought his third career bout with impressive composure and smart distance control.

His technical skill was evident throughout the match, narrowly missing a split decision victory in a hard-fought contest.

Luke “Mad Dog” Morrison (75kg) was showcasing top-level boxing across all three rounds with a commanding and unanimous lead on the scorecards when a well-timed punch in the final minutes of round three caused the referee to stop the contest (RSC).

These bouts serve as essential warm-ups for the upcoming Open International Golden Gloves, held from July 14-19 at Brisbane’s Eagles Sports Complex.

The event promises to be one of Australia’s biggest boxing showcases with 730 athletes competing from every Australian state and territory – plus international contenders from India, Nauru, Fiji, Sierra Leone, New Zealand and Scotland.

Neon Boxing Academy is proudly sending seven athletes to represent the Redlands and Queensland on this grand stage.

Meanwhile, Gene “The Machine” Keremete continues to impress on the world stage.

After intensive, consecutive training camps at the Australian Institute of Sport and Kazakhstan since June 10, Gene begins his World Boxing Cup campaign in Astana this week.

Benefiting from byes in the early prelim rounds, Gene advanced straight to the quarterfinals on Tuesday, with strong eyes on the title.
